At a party, everyone loves a little something to nibble on. Being perfectly honest we like a lot of something to nibble on… So we decided to make some cheese straws. These were a really easy recipe to make, meaning they’re great when you’ve got a lot of baking to do!
We made 2 different types of cheese straws (because they are just that easy!) and as far as we are concerned the more cheese based items the better! Our 2 flavours are parmesan & garlic and cheddar & chili jam, you can buy this from the shop or make your own like we did.

Hot & Sweet Chilli Jam
Ingredients
- 1kg jam sugar
- 600ml cider vinegar
- 300g red & yellow peppers, deseeded & chopped
- red bird’s eye chillies, deseeded (amount depends how spicy you want it – we used ALOT)
Instructions
- Firstly you will need to sterilise you jars, the easiest way to do this is in the dish washer. Leave to cool.
- Blitz the chillies in a food processor to small chunks, add the peppers and pulse till you have a finely chopped mixture but not too much to create a paste.
- In a large pan dissolve the sugar in the vinegar over a low heat (do not stir).
- Add the pepper & chilli mix, giving it a stir and bring to the boil on a high heat for 10 mins or so
- Leave to cool down, you should be left with a jelly like consistency with the peppers evenly dispersed.
- Share your jam out into your jars and seal the lids on tightly.
Notes
- This recipe will make up to 6 250ml jars but you can use a big kilner type jar or whatever you like. We like things spicy so we used a good handful of bird’s eye chillies, however you can use jalapenos or any other chilli you want depending on how much spice you can handle.
